The route, stage by stage
Sri Ganganagar to Hanumangarh (about 64 km, around an hour)
The first stretch runs through the irrigated canal belt to Hanumangarh. It is the busiest part of the drive, with town traffic at both ends, so allow a little extra time during market hours.
Hanumangarh to Sardarshahar (about 145 km, around 2 to 2½ hours)
From Hanumangarh you join SH-7, the Hanumangarh–Kishangarh Mega Highway, which runs south through Rawatsar and Pallu to Sardarshahar and then on to Ratangarh. Fields give way to open sand country and khejri trees as you head south.

Driving tips
- Fill up in Hanumangarh. There are fewer fuel and food stops on the open stretch further south.
- In summer, start early or drive after sunset. The Churu region averages over 40 °C in May and June, according to IMD data.
- Winter mornings can be foggy in the canal belt around Ganganagar and Hanumangarh. Leave a margin and use fog lamps.
- Watch for slow tractors and animals on the two-lane stretches, especially after dark.
By bus or train
Sardarshahar has an RSRTC bus depot (running since 1976), and buses link it with towns across the region, including Hanumangarh and Sri Ganganagar. Timings change, so confirm at the bus stand or on the RSRTC website before you travel.
There is no direct train between Sri Ganganagar and Sardarshahar. Rail travellers usually take a train to Churu or Ratangarh and finish the journey by road (about 55 km and 48 km respectively). Sardarshahar has its own station on the Ratangarh line. Check current trains on the NTES or IRCTC app.
